Lizzie Goes to America

This book starts shortly after Elizabeth left Kent where, while she was visiting her friend Charlotte Collins, she encountered Darcy while he was visiting his Aunt Catherine. She is staying with her Uncle and Aunt Gardiner in London and is cogitating Darcy's proposal to her in Kent, her scathing refusal of that proposal, and her reaction to the letter he wrote to her after her refusal. After reading the letter many times, she comes to understand that she had misjudged and undeservedly vilified him and had probably ruined any chance she might have with him in the future. Through a series of incidents in which she sees Darcy, but he does not see her, she believes he has moved on to another woman. Suffering from lover’s remorse, when offered a position in the United States, she takes it. The first part of the book tells of the steps Darcy takes to get her back and the second half about events which take place after her return to England. A much more poised and genteel Kitty plays a prominent role in this book. It also tells what happens to Lydia and Wickham after their marriage.
